The Sociology Club was founded in 1995 in order to advance the professional socialization of undergraduate students interested in the discipline. In its first year, members of the club helped clean-up the environment on a day designated to picking up debris and organized a successful clothing drive in support of Shade Tree and Temporary Aid for Domestic Crises. With the funds that were raised from bake sales, drawings, and Unity Fest, the Sociology Club is creating a scholarship to be offered to a qualified sociology major beginning in 1997 and annually thereafter. We are currently searching for a financial sponsor who may also name this fellowship. If you would like to sponsor the fellowship or are a student interested in applying, please contact the Sociology Club at (702) 895-0265. After a successful first year, we hope only to expand the membership and offerings of the organization this year. The Sociology Club co-sponsored The Fight for America's Future: A Teach-In with the Labor Movement on October 3, 1996. On Tuesday, October 29, we will be volunteering at the fourth annual Stand Down for the Homeless. In addition to continuing our fund raising efforts, the Sociology Club also plans on hosting a variety of professional speakers and attending national and/or regional socio logical conferences. The Sociology Club is a fun way to explore networking opportunities while getting acquainted with fellow students and professors. All undergraduate students are welcome to join. For more information please call (702) 895-0265. The UNLV Sociology Internship Program provides an opportunity for experiential learning that can help students apply and extend their sociological imagination, including conceptual abilities and analytical problem-solving skills, in settings beyond the classroom.
